Applying gamification to develop pedagogical situation handling skills in pre-service early childhood education students
Abstract
In the current context of educational innovation, equipping students in Early Childhood Education with effective pedagogical situation-handling skills is an urgent requirement. However, existing training methods are limited in interactivity, making it challenging to develop practical skills for students. Gamification—a modern pedagogical approach that integrates game elements and mechanisms into the learning environment—enhances engagement, motivation, and learning efficiency. Applying gamification to the training of situation-handling skills offers a creative approach that encourages students to actively participate and experience realistic professional scenarios within a safe environment. Consequently, this method improves students’ reflexes, problem-solving abilities, and pedagogical decision-making. This article analyzes the theoretical foundations of gamification and pedagogical situation-handling skills, and proposes various gamification applications in training, such as situational simulation games, interactive technology tools (Kahoot, Quizizz, Classcraft, etc.), and the development of reward systems and leaderboards. Additionally, it presents a process for designing gamified learning activities tailored to the specific characteristics of Early Childhood Education students. Research results indicate that gamification not only contributes to improving training quality but also fosters positive learning motivation, helping students develop pedagogical thinking and enhance professional competence.
