Abstract

This study represents a theoretical description of the methods of gamma scattering and gamma transmission to determine the density of liquids. The principle of these methods is based on the linear dependence of the photon beam intensity (scattering or transmission) on the liquid density. The results show that the intensity of photon beam changes linearly with the density of liquids, where the adjusted coefficient of determination  was above 0.987 for both methods. Using these linear standard curves, the density of seven liquids were determined, which the relative deviation between the calculated density and the standard density is almost below 4%. It can be included that the gamma scattering and gamma transmission methods can be applied to determine the density of a liquid with the relative uncertainty of measurements in the range of 4% to 8 %.
