USING SPEECH SHADOWING TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ PRONUNCIATION

Abstract

ABSTRACT
This study is about using Speech Shadowing to improve pronunciation for second year students at Dong
Thap University. Five students at the Faculty of Foreign Languages Teacher Education participated in
a 30 minutes practice session. After taking a pre-test, students started processing the method of Speech
Shadowing from a video with its transcript. Then they took post-test with the same questions at the end of the
session. Students’ reading at pre-test and post-test was recorded as data, which were then quantitatively and
qualitatively analyzed. The results show that the method helped students recognize the two ending sounds /s/,
/z/ better. All of these findings contribute substantially to sharpening students’ pronunciation.
