Using the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm for optimal design of the weight of steel-concrete composite beam according to the Eurocode 4 standards

Abstract
In this paper, an optimal design method for steel-concrete composite beam based on the search result of the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is proposed. PSO algorithm is carried out through Matlab programming language to design steel-concrete composite beam with the objective function of minimizing beam weight, in order to satisfy all safety conditions and usability according to Eurocode 4 standard. The result of the numerical example showed that the PSO algorithm is simple and highly efficient, which can be applied well in developing design softwares of structural optimization.
