Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the progressive collapse, behavior factor and stiffness scale factor of multi-storey structures under earthquakes using nonlinear static analysis method. Two multi-storey reinforced concrete structures in Ho Chi Minh city, with different number of stories (12 and 20), were carried out to investigate. From the analysis results, the progressive collapse was completely different between two structures: 12 storey building showed the hinge formation at the column first where 20 storey building exhibited the hinge formation at the beam first. In addition, the behavior factors obtained from nonlinear static analysis method were higher than those obtained from design requirements and thus the energy absorption capacity of two structures were higher than expected. On the other hand, the stiffness scale factors were found to be different to design requirements.
