Effect of uncertain material property on free vibration of functionally graded material beams

Abstract

Using the stochastic finite element method (SFEM) to perform the free vibration analysis of functionally graded material (FGM) beam with random Young's modulus. It is assumed that material properties vary along the beam thickness according to exponential distributions. The stochastic natural frequency problem was solved independently by first-order perturbation method and Monte Carlo simulation. The coefficient of variation is investigated into the effect of random elastic modulus with one dimensional homogeneous stochastic process on the variability of natural frequency.
