Propose method to calculate the resistance of the connection of composite column’s steel with reinforced concrete beams or slabs

Abstract

This paper presents a method for calculating the resistance of the connection of composite column’s steel with reinforced concrete beams/slabs based on Eurocode 4 (EC4) and the mechanic theory of building. Currently, in VietNam's current standard [1] [2], there are no calculation guidelines for composite columns in general and the connection of composite column’s steel with reinforced concrete beams/slabs in particular. So in this article, the author proposes a method to calculate the resistance of the connection of composite column’s steel with reinforced concrete beams/slabs based on the European standards EC4 [8] and SCI Column calculation software has been applied by the author in the actual project, from which, the author gives recommendations for civil engineers in applying building design calculations in practice in Vietnam given in the last of this article.
