Determination of shear strength of sand using uniaxial compression test in unconfined condition
Abstract
Currently, field tests and direct shear tests are commonly used to determine values of the angle of internal friction of sandy soil. The gained results improve that there is a relationship between the deformation modulus and the internal friction angle of sandy soil. By conducting loading and unloading uniaxial tests in unconfined condition for prepared samples of sandy soil, the formula of calculating the angle of internal friction is indirectly built. The achieved results are verified by direct shear tests.
