A SOCIOGRAPHY OF POPULATION IN PHU HOA WARD THU DAU MOT CITY

Abstract

Based on the data set of a survey on the social stratification conducted in 2020, the article describes some socio-cultural features of the population in Phu Hoa ward, Thu Dau Mot city, Binh Duong Province. The majority of respondents feels “moderately, satisfied and unsatisfied” with job and family life. The rate of satisfaction by interviewees with job is not high, especially with the income. It is also the same with the rate of satisfaction with family life. The people in Phu Hoa Ward own the high social capital, presenting in the frequency of contact with family members, relatives, neighbors, colleagues, and friends. The social and human capital are significantly developed. There is the high rate using tivi and internet. The majority watches usually domestic news, cultural and arts programs. There is a markable rate of respondents joining socio-cultural events outside, but it is not so high as desired. The sport and exercise activities are significantly popular. To the individual achievement, the orientation toward to the ethics, individual efforts, and certificates appears strongly. But, the economic capital and social relations of the individual and family are considered as the very important factors. The respondents in Phu Hoa Ward trust much family members and the protection of the local government and public health. There are not many interviewees who trust the market and the advertisement shown in the mass media. It is a low rate of respondents who say that they trust friends or colleagues in the workplace. No one trusts the unfamiliar persons in public places. The sociography of this paper provides a set of indicators to the local policy-makers for improving socio-cultural features of the population in the surveyed field.
