ASSESSMENT OF THE CURRENT SITUATION OF PLASTIC PRODUCTS USING AND PROPOSING PLASTIC WASTE MANAGEMENT METHODS IN THU DAU MOT CITY - BINH DUONG

Abstract

The study conducted the survey and evaluation of the current situation of plastic waste using of residents in Thu Dau Mot city, along with evaluating people's awareness about reducing plastic waste. The study used methods such as information collection, sociological investigation and information processing statistics for 100 households in the area. The results indicated that, the most popular used plastic products are single-use plastic bags (59%) and plastic bottles/cups (29%). Most of these products originate from trading, buying and selling activities. The local residents use plastic products due to the convenience and low-price of these products. In research area, residents still burn plastic waste with the rate from 6% to 13% and bury it unsanitary with the rate of 4% to 6%. In particular, there is still a large number of people who throw away plastic waste, accounting for between 18% and 21%. There are 8% of people who complete the survey do not concern that plastic waste is a serious environmental problem and 87% of people believe that the responsibility for reducing plastic waste belongs to each individual. With the above situation, the study proposed some solutions to reduce plastic waste in Thu Dau Mot city, Binh Duong.
