Abstract

A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 228 diabetes patients who were inpatient at Becamex International Hospital from May 2022 to September 2022 to assess the degree of diabetic distress by using the Diabetes Distress Scale -17 (DDS -17) and explore factors related to distress. The results showed that the total average score of DDS -17 in the surveyed diabetes patients was 2.2 ± 0.55. 100% of study participants suffered from diabetes distress, in particurlar 43.9% patients had serious diabetes distress and 56.1% had mild - moderate. Duration of diabetes, kidney complications, the use of insulin to treat diabetes increase the risk of severe depression in people with diabetes. Meanwhiles, compliance with follow-up visits, exercise and home blood glucose monitoring reduces the rate of serious diabetic distress in people with diabetes. Diabetic distress in inpatients should be concerned. In the process of treatment and health care at the hospital, it is necessary to integrate patient education programs to enhance blood sugar control and treatment adherence.
