The study determined the theoretical basis, surveyed the current status of students' awareness, attitudes, and self-study methods, and finally proposed solutions to improve the attitudes and self-study methods of university students in Can Tho. The study surveyed 53 lecturers and 453 students at 10 training units of Can Tho University. The questionnaire included quantitative questions combined with cognitive interviews about the importance and attitude of self-study. Level of interest and implementation of self-study method of students at Can Tho University were also examined. Collected results analyzed by SPSS 20 software show that more than 10% of students rated the influence of attitude on self-study activities as having little to moderate influence. Students usually apply self-study through group discussions and discovering information on the internet, but the self-study method using mind maps is not widely applied. The study proposes measures to help Can Tho University students improve their attitudes and self-study methods. The proposal is a premise to improve student learning efficiency and improve the quality of Can Tho University.
