Abstract

In the era of industry 4.0 with an incredible growth, technology application in education has become an inevitable trend. When using any technology platform or tool in the classroom, students’ acceptance and readiness to use is an important factor in ensuring its effectiveness. There have been several models proposed to assess students’ level of technology acceptance in education, but the two most popular are Technology Acceptance Model TAM and Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology UTAUT. With the use of grounded theory research method, the article reviews the concept, critical comments and applications of these two models and their extensions in several studies on technology acceptance in education, thereby suggesting a potential tool to education leaders, schools and teachers in understanding learners’ attitudes towards technology application in education. The study shows that these two models share several factors in common including the perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, social influence, and behavioral intention to use in common. While TAM is a lean model, UTAUT provides a more detailed one with further explanation about users’ behavioral intention.
