Livelihood Transition in Small-Scale Fisheries Under the Impact of Multiple Shocks: A Review and Implications for Coastal Vietnam
Keywords:
Shocks, livelihood transitions, livelihood diversification, coastal fisheries.
Abstract
Small-scale coastal fisheries, constrained by limited production capacity, are facing a high level of vulnerability to the compounded impacts of successive multi-shocks such as resource decline, climate change, natural disasters, environmental pollution, market crises, disease outbreaks, and related policy changes. Based on a literature review following PRISMA guidelines and a bibliometric analysis of the Scopus database for the period 2004 - 2024 to assess trends in livelihood transitions under shocks, the results indicate a diverse but uneven set of coping, diversification, and livelihood transformation strategies. The analysis also reveals substantial evidence gaps regarding both livelihood and ecological impacts.
