Abstract

Accurate assessment of air pollution levels in work[1]places and surrounding environments requires the sam[1]pling of particulate matter (PM) by size. To address this need, the Center for Research and Technology Trans[1]fer (Cretech) has developed the ManPMS - PM weight sampler device, which adheres to the standards set by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 40- CFR Part 50. The device comprises a PM10 dust sampler head (VAST-PM10L-1) designed to capture particles with a diameter < 10 µm on a filter by impaction, with a suction flow rate of 16.67 L/min (equivalent to 1 m3 /h). The sampler head collects PM particles, draws in a gas sample from the ambient air under calm wind condi[1]tions, and simultaneously removes particles with sizes ≥ 10 µm. The PM2.5 separator unit (VAST-PM2.5-WINS), placed below the PM10 sampler head, is also designed to meet EPA standards. It functions as a pre-separator for particles larger than or equal to 2.5 µm, while re[1]moving impurities such as water and debris. The Man[1]PMS system includes additional components such as exhaust pipes, air suction pumps, a controlled air flow rate system through the filter, an air flow rate measure[1]ment device, ambient temperature monitoring, a filter holder bracket, atmospheric pressure measurement, a timer, and a housing that complies with the regulations specified in 40-CFR Part 50 of the US EPA.
