TRENDS IN ENGINE SELECTION FOR OVER 8000 TEU CONTAINER VESSELS

Abstract

Container ships are one of the three largest vessel groups (including container ships, bulk carriers and tankers) of commercial fleets, so special attention to this group of ships is necessary and available meaning.

The paper introduces and presents the trend of choosing the main engine for container ships with a capacity of over 8,000 TEUs, including: factors affecting to the main engine selection trend and engine power selection. Based on the data analysis by the author of nearly 800 container ships with a capacity of over 8,000 TEUs (from the management source of 6 reputable ship registration agencies in the world), built in the period 2008-2018, the paper gave a major trend for choosing the main engine. The data published in the article can be used as a reference source in the design and construction of container ships.
