Detection and genotyping coronavirus in cats raised in Ha Noi City, 2023
Abstract
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and nested PCR methods were used to identify the feline coronavirus (FCoV) and to determine its type in this study. A total of 30 fecal samples were collected from cats brought to the pet clinics in Ha Noi from January to May of 2023 for testing, identifying FCoV. The tested result showed that there were 4/30 (13.33 %) samples were positive with FCoV through PCR method. The positive rate of cats at <12 months and 12-24 months of age were 7.14 and 27.27%, respectively, while no positive sample was detected in the cats at >24 months of age. The positive rate in male and female cats were 21.43% and 6.25%, respectively. Whereas, the positive rates in the healthy and ill cats was not significantly different. Four FCoV obtained in this study belonged to type I through nested PCR method.
