Situation of reproductive disease, effectiveness of treatment and causing estrus actively and simultaneously in Mong Cai sows in some livestock farms in Quang Ninh province
Abstract
The objective of this study aimed at assessing the reproduction indicators, reproductive diseases, treatment of metritis and causing estrus actively and simultaneously in Mong Cai sows in some livestock farms in Quang Ninh province. The studied result showed that average number of newborn piglets/litter were from 9 to 12, highest in the 3rd litter and lowest in the 1st litter. The average newborn weight/piglet/litter from the sows giving birth in the third and second litters was 0.56 kg and 0.55 kg, respectively. In the sows giving birth in the first litter, the fourth litter and the fifth litter, the average newborn weight of piglet was 0.51kg; 0.53kg and 0.52kg, respectively. The average rate of the weaning piglets per litter was highest in the sows giving birth in the 2nd litter (94.44%), and lowest in the 4th litter (85.1%). The percentage of herds having the number of stillborn piglets from the first to fifth litters was 7.25, 7.4, 6.02, 8.69, 20%, respectively. The rate of piglets suffering with deformities/newborn total from the 1st litter to 5th litter was 0.6, 0.57, 0.46, 1.89, 2.78%, respectively. Of which, the ratio of the newborn piglets suffering with mud fetuses and wooden fetuses in 5 litters was 50, 45.45, 50, 41.17, 33.33%, respectively. The incidence of postpartum metritis in Mong Cai sows was the highest compared to other diseases (2-20%) and was the highest in the sows giving birth in the first litter (20%). The rate of breeding sows in 1st - 4th litters infected with mastitis was about 3 - 4%. The rate of sows with difficulty giving birth and loss of milk also appeared with the low rate, only 1 - 3% and in the 1st litter to 4th litter. The treatment efficacy for metritis in Mong Cai sows after farrowing was 97.1 %. Treatment time was 6.3 ± 1.1 days and return to estrus after weaning was 10.2 ± 1.0 days. The seeding rate with the experimental group was 95%, of which the control group only reached 80%. The regimen used in this study did not affect to some reproductive monitored parameters. Specifically, the pregnancy rate reached 100%, the average number of new born/litter reached 15.02 ± 1.12 piglets. The average number of survival newborn was 13.77 ± 1.13 piglets. The rate of weaning piglets /survival newborn number reached 99.1% and the average weight of newborn/litter reached 0.54 ± 0.02 kg.
