Abstract

The result of testing 350 polydactyl chickens raised at Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry showed that there were 102 chickens (accounting for 29.14%) infected with red mites; the infected chickens mainly had <5 red mite nests per chicken (70.59%). Chickens under 3 months old had the lowest rate of red mite infection (20.00%), while chickens over 6 months of age had the highest infection rate (36.51%). Chickens raised in the months from January to June
were infected with 32.78%, chickens raised in the months from July to December were infected with 25.29%. Male and female chickens did not affect the rate of red mite infection. The result of testing different types of herbal extracts with different concentrations showed that mangrove extracts with concentration 3 (70 grams of watered mangroves + 500 ml of water, boiled until 300 ml remained) was effective in killing red mites on chickens, with 100% of disease-free chickens.
