Abstract

1600 fecal samples were collected from buffaloes and cattle in 5 districts (Hung Nguyen, Nam Dan, Dien Chau, Nghi Loc, Quynh Luu) of Nghe An province for detecting liver fluke through Benedek method. The result of fecal analysis indicated that there were 40.00% of buffalo and 16.75% of cattle infected with liver fluke. This infection rate from autopsy for buffalo and cattle was 44.00% and 20.00%, respectively. Liver fluke infection rate in buffalo and cattle was increased by their age. This rate was highest (56.71%) in buffalo over 5 years old, and was lowest (21.96%) in buffalo below 3 years old. Meanwhile, this rate was highest (23.68%) in cattle over 5 years old and lowest (10.18%) in cattle below 3 years old. The intensity of liver fluke infection in buffalo was 1-59 flukes/1buffalo, and 1- 12 flukes/1cattle (result from autopsy). The result of fecal analysis showed that there were 369.77 fluke eggs in 1 gram of buffalo feces and 236.44 fluke eggs in 1 gram of cattle feces.
