Prevalence and risk factors for infection of Avian influenza virus A/H5 in poultry farms in Quang Binh province (2012-2016)
Abstract
This study was conducted to identify the prevalence and the risk factors for the infection ofavian influenza virus A/H5 in the poultry farms in Quang Binh province (2012-2016). The results
of studying 60 swab samples indicated that there were 15 positive samples with Avian influenza
type A (gene M), accounting for 25% and 5 positive samples with H5, accounting for 8.34%. The
result of analysing 400 serum samples collecting from the poultries before vaccination showed that
there were 136 positive samples with avian influenza virus A/H5, accounting for 34%. The main risk
factors for infection of virus A/H5 into poultry farms consisted of distance from the main road to the
farms less than 500 m (OR, 2.8; p=0.002), pond/canal/reservoir near the farms (OR, 3.1; p=0.001),
presence of more than one species in the farms (OR, 2.2; p=0.018), free range birds (OR, 2.83;
p=0.002), using pond or river water for poultry (OR, 2.2; p=0.014), allowing wild birds access to
poultry farms (OR, 2.3; p=0.01).
