etermination of some biological characteristics of Streptococcus suis caused disease in pigs at Thai Nguyen province

Abstract

The result of investigating epidemic situation, isolation and identification of some biological
characteristics ofS. suisbacteria causing disease in pigs in Thai Nguyen province showed that the
death and infected rates of pig by the respiratory disease were 14.17% and 12.91% respectively;
by Joint inflammation were 11.02% and 6.85% respectively. The death and infected rates of pig
by these diseases were different among the pig age groups, the highest rates were in the postweaning piglets, followed by the piglets and the lowest rates were in the substitute sows and
sows. The isolated S.suis species showed typically biological characteristics as describing in
the published foreign and in-country documents. The isolated S.suis species were susceptible
with ceftiofur (84.52%), florfenicol (81.54%), amoxicillin (80.35%), ampicillin (72.61%), resisted
to erythromycin (82.73%), colistin (78.57%), neomycin (72.02%) and penicillin G (58.33%).
