Abstract

The study was conducted on 180 pharynx swab samples and 60 environmental samples (30 fecal samples and 30 water samples) to detect the presence of Avian influenza type A/H5N1, H5N6, H7N9 viruses in some live poultry markets in Quang Tri province. The studied results showed that the positive sample rate with avian influenza type A virus was 18.33% (44/240 samples), of which 2.08% of samples (5/240 samples) were positive with subtype H5N6. All of the collected samples were negative with H5N1 and H7N9. The positive sample rate with influenza type A virus was highest (29.17%, 14/48 samples) in poultry samples collected from Dong Ha market and the lowest positive sample rate was at Dien Sanh market with 10.42% (5/48 samples). Meanwhile, the prevalence of A/H5N6 virus in Ho Xa and Dong Ha markets was highest (4.16%), followed by the Cau market (2.08%), and this subtype virus was not found in other markets. The prevalence of influenza A virus in the throat swab samples collecting in the live ducks, chickens and fresh feces were 17.77%, 27.77% and 10%, respectively. Among the monitoring samples, the prevalence of avian influenza A/H5N6 virus was only detected in the chicken throat swab samples (5.55%). In Quang Tri province, the prevalence of avian influenza A virus was highest in October (30%) and lowest in May (7.5%). However, the avian influenza A/H5N6 virus was only detected in September (5.0%) and July (2.5%), it was not found in the remaining studied months.
