Abstract

The study “Applying ultrasound technique for the diagnosis of canine renal diseases at Can Tho city” was carried out to determine the situation of canine renal disease. The result of diagnosing 38 dogs suspecting urinary system disorder by ultrasound method showed that there were 16 dogs suffered with kidney diseases, accounting for 42.11%. The incidence of renal diseases in
dogs was not significant difference between breeds (indigenous and exotic dog breeds), between male and female dogs (P>0.05). However, there was a significant difference in the incidence of
renal diseases by age and farming methods. The highest rate of renal diseases was in the dog
group at 6 to 10 years old (43.75%) and the lowest rate was in the dog group under 2 years old
(6.25%). The captive raising dogs faced higher incidence of renal diseases than the free-ranching
dogs (72% vs 25%, P<0.05). The ultrasound results also showed that renal diseases were mainly
nephritis (81.25%) and fluid retention (oedema) in kidneys (18.75%).
