Investigation on metritis and pyometra in bitches at Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city
Abstract
The study on metritis and pyometra in bitches at Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city was carried out from August 2019 to April 2020. A total of 983 bitches were first time brought to Veterinary Clinic for diagnosis and treatment. The result of clinical and subclinical diagnosis showed that 112 bitches were suffered
with metritis and pyometra, accounting for 11.39% (112/983). The incidence of metritis and pyometra in the exotic bitches was higher than that of the indigenous bitches (15.19% vs 7.66%). The highest rate of bitches suffering with metritis and pyometra was in the bitch group at 2-5 years old (23.65%), followed by over 5 years old (8.36%) and under 2 years old (3.29%). In addition, the virgin or irregular reproduction bitches suffered with higher incidence of metritis and pyometra (21.26%) compared to the bitches have delivered 1-2 litters (14.15%) and 3-5 litters (3.35%). The free-ranching bitches faced with higher incidence of metritis and pyometra than the captive raising bitches (15.32% vs 7.17%). The bitches with prehistory of contraceptive treatments suffered with higher incidence of metritis and pyometra (16.26%) in comparison with the bitches without contraceptive treatments (6.64%).
