Dystocia in bitches and treatment efficacy at the Veterinary Clinic of Can Tho University
Abstract
The study “Dystocia in bitches and treatment efficacy at the Veterinary Clinic of Can Tho University” was performed from August 2019 to April 2020. There were 751 bitches brought to the Veterinary Clinic for dystocia examination and treatment. The results of clinical and subclinical diagnosis showed that there were 74 bitches suffered with dystocia, accounting for 9.85%. For
the treatment, surgical intervention accounted for the highest rate (93.24%) and the successful rate was 100%. However, the successful rate was not high by other treatment methods, such as oxytocin injection (0%) or common
complications during surgery were vomiting with the highest rate (56.52%), followed by loss of lood (10.14%), respiratory problems (5.79%), while the complications after surgery, including the wound thread were broken with the highest rate (13.04%), wound infection (8.69%), broken muscle and peritoneum (5.79%). The time to heal a wound depended on the age of dogs with the highest rate after surgery about 5-7 days.
