The situation of M.M.A syndrome in sows raised in Dak Song district, Dak Nong province
Abstract
This study was conducted to evaluate the status of M.M.A syndrome in the sows and evaluate the
effect of M.M.A syndrome on the reproductive performance of sows. The studied results showed that the
incidence of M.M.A syndrome was quite high (accounting for 62.07%). The incidence of M.M.A syndrome
decreased gradually from the parity (litter) 1 to 4, then gradually increased from litter 5 onwards. Specifically
the rate of MMA syndrome in the parity 1 was 19.4%, parity 2, parity 3 was 16.7% and 13.9%, respectively;
parity 4 was 8.3%, parity 5 was 11.1%, from parity 6 onward increased from 13.9% to 16.7%. Out of 36
sows with M.M.A syndrome, among 36 infected cases, 16 sows were in the form of metritis with mastitis
(44.4%), 12 sows were in the form of metritis with loss of milk (33.3%) and 8 sows showed typical form
(22.2%). The re-estrus time in the MMA group usually lasted with an average of 6.6 ± 0.221 days (the mean
oestrus time was 6.6 days, the difference did not exceed 0.221 days), the number of oestrus sows in the
herd was low and the number of pregnant sows in the later parity was also low. 2 drugs (amoxinject LA
and pendistrep LA) were used in the treatment of uteritis combined with mastitis achieved the good results
