Study on biological characteristics of Streptococcus suis causing disease in pig in Ha Noi City

Abstract

In this study, the Streptococcus suis strain, serotype 2 (strain: HD24) isolated from oropharyngeal fluid of pigs in Ha Noi City in 2018 was tested for its ability in culture, biological properties, stability and genetic characteristics. The studied results showed that this strain had ability to grow well on BHI broth, todd hewitt broth, and sheep blood agar medium at 370C, 5% CO2 . The results of testing biological characteristics of the isolated S. suis strain using the API20STREP kit also showed similar results to S. suis strain ATCC 31533. The HD24 strain belonged to serotype 2, carried 2 virulence genes: arcA and sly genes, and was highly stable during the cultured process, this isolated strain shared the same phylogenetic branch with the S. suis strain isolated in China and the similarity level with the reference strains on GenBank was 99.41-99.71%.
