Study on several epidemiological characteristics of scabies disease in dogs in Vinh city, Nghe An province

Abstract

In order to assess the situation of scabies infection in dog in Vinh city, Nghe An province. 623 skin samples were collected from the dogs (suspecting infection with scabies) for testing scabies disease by direct examined observation at the Allpet Veterinary Clinic. The studied result showed that there were 12.04% of dogs in 7 wards of Vinh city infected with scabies disease, in which 7.87% of dogs were infected with Demodex sp. and 4.17% infected with Sarcoptes sp. The dogs at all age groups were infected with scabies, but the infection rate of dogs ≥ 2 years old with scabies disease (30.77%) were significantly higher than that of the dogs at 1-2 years old and dogs <1 year old (P<0,05). The infection rate and intensity of the indigenous dog breeds was significantly higher than that of the exotic dog breeds (P<0,05). The infection rate of the long hair dogs was higher than that of the short hair dogs (P<0,05). The infection rate of the male and female dogs was not different.
