Current situation of applying biosecurity at chicken farms in Dong Anh district, Ha Noi City

Abstract

This study was conducted from July to October, 2019 to determine the current situation of applying biosecurity measures in the chicken farms in Dong Anh district, Ha Noi City. The studied results revealed that the biosecurity measures were applied in most of the farms, however the application was not adequate and proper. Among the surveyed farms, 83.3% of the farms did not apply disinfection at the entry gates, 46.7% of the farms did not have the isolated areas for the sick birds, 100% of the farms used untreated litter,
100% of the farms had no treatment measures for manure and litter after use, 100% of the farms presented rats and insects inside the farms. In addition, workers in 43.3% of the farms did not wear protective clothes during the working time. Therefore, recommendations should be given to farmers on applying biosecurity properly and adequately in the farms so as to contribute the prevention of diseases in the farms.
