OPINIONS ON THE VALUE OF LITERATURE OF SOME REPRESENTATIVES OF MODERN JAPANESE LITERATURE

Abstract

This article focuses on the literary and artistic values of two prominent figures in modern Japanese literature: Natsume Soseki and Tsubouchi Shoyo. The creative careers of these two writers have interesting similarities - both were deeply influenced by English literature and, in addition to their literary works, they also wrote famous literary essays. Their works and books on literary theory clearly express their own views on the value system of literature and art in the broader cultural context.
