Financial Capital in the Livelihoods of Thai Ethnic Group Resettled by Ban Ve Hydropower Plant, Nghe An Province

Abstract

The construction of Ban Ve hydropower plant in Nghe An province has significantly impacted the local ethnic minority communities, of which the Thai people has been directly and most affected. After a period of moving to the resettlement area, their lives gradually improved despite of several difficulties due to lack of arable land or slow adaptation to new conditions. Recently, with the goal of restoring livelihoods for resettled communities affected by hydropower construction, support policies of the State and international organizations have focused on capital sources including natural capital, physical capital, especially financial capital that help promoting and ensuring the success of development projects.
