Oil security and policies of China

Abstract

According to the “World Energy Outlook 2030” by BP, China will be projected to become the world’s largest oil consumer. In 2007, the International Energy Agency (IEA) also estimated that China would surpass America to become the world’s top oil consumer just right after 2010. Even the time of being top oil consumer of China is different; these evaluations have been proved by the fast growth of energy consumption since its reform and opening-up policy in 1978. China is facing with the fact of primary energy shortage and it could be more and more seriously. As a result, the oil shortage is a big challenge of both China and whole area. The article has analyzed these major challenges in how to ensure the oil security of China as well as introducing policies to deal with the current oil shortage of this country.
