A half century with linguistics training and research

Abstract

For this year of 2006, the Faculty of Linguistics,
School of Social Sciences and Humanity, Hanoi-based
National University, is round 50 years old. The article
made a portray of the 50-year path (1956 - 2006) for
the formulation and development of the Faculty;
simultaneously, reviewed development stages in its
training and research cause, as well as acknowledged
merits, including: the building of a regular contingent
of scientific staff; adopting the sector-oriented
research tasks; making documentation on such
domains as general linguistics, phonetics, lexicology,
methodology, dialectology, dialectical logics,
statistical linguistics, mentalinguistic, comparable
linguistics, etc…Especially, the Faculty had developed
a curriculum on Studies of Vietnamese ethnic minority
languages, which was widely made public and being
used for a compulsory subject taught in schools of
social sciences and humanity across the country. It had
provided an important human resource consisted by
108 persons with PhD degree, 90 with Master Degree
and 1,350 graduates.
