Abstract

The book East Asia decentralizes - Making local government
work is the resulting outcome of researches conducted by
World Banks experts on issues pertaining to decentralization
in some countries in East Asia. This work analyzed and
assessed of what had been done by these countries, pointed
out core factors, highlighted positive experiences and
identified areas to which priority should be given in the
coming time. Researchers did not conduct an East Asian
region-wide survey, but focus was placed on six countries in
East Asia where, as observed by experts, decentralization
became extremely important China, Vietnam, Cambodia,
Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand.
