  • Nguyễn Minh Phương

Abstract

Views of the concept, characteristics of civil society organizations differ, but in 2006 an additional number of 21 associations, unions with an operational scope across the country and 417 associations at local level were newly established. Associations and unions have made certain contributions to promoting democracy, protecting legitimate rights and interests of their members and associate members, participating in economic development, providing public services, philanthropic and humanitarian activities, consultancy, social counter-argument and examination, people-to-people relations, etc. This demonstrates the objective character of the foundation of civil society organizations in the context of building a socialist rule-of-law state and socialist-oriented market economy development. It also puts out issues that need further study of the organization, operation as well as the state management work over civil society organizations in Vietnam.
