Commitment to cultural diversity in the context of globaliztion

Abstract

The author of this article wanted to prove that cultural diversity is a natural truth. However, in the context of globalization, some American scholars and statesmen had initiated and advocated for the so-called “doctrine” of uniformity of universal values based on American cultural model. While many states steadily maintain their national cultural identities, at the same time exercise a diversified and multilateral cultural exchanges.
For Vietnam, the author held the view that we, on the one hand, should be alert of cultural imposition attempts by external forces; on the other, we are determined not to step back with the closed-door policy. Succeeding and bringing into play thousand-year experience lessons transmitted by our ancestors, we can proactively open our doors, enhance contacts, exchanges and dialogues with other cultures the world over, which base our selection of the mankind’s cultural quintessence in order to enrich and beautify our national cultural identity.
