Pillars to build a knowledge society

Abstract

Having reviewed concepts and characteristics of knowledge society, the author sorted out four key pillars to build a knowledge society, namely political pillar, knowledge-based economy pillar, science-technology pillar; and, education and training pillar. Based on presentations on the formulation, role, scope of effect of these four pillars in building the knowledge society in future, the author affirmed that with the four above-mentioned pillars in place, the modern knowledge society will be able to remedy shortcomings of the classic information society, retaining the excellency of a sustainably developed society. However, to address challenges posed on the road toward a knowledge society it requires futher cooperative efforts dedicated by the international community.
