Implications of modern theories on Vietnamese grammar study

Abstract

Vietnamese linguistics started after the August Revolution 1945. But a milestone was set up since 1954 when Vietnam established universities in the North and the Literature-History-Geography Committee, the predecessor of the current Academy of Social Sciences, with special branches in linguistics in universities and the Institute of Linguistics, Vietnamese linguistics have entered a new developmental era.

Understanding of the implications of tendencies and movements in modern linguistics on Vietnamese linguistics is of importance for us to make an overall assessment and find out apt development solutions for Vietnamese linguistics in the renewal period in Vietnam. In this article, we initially present the most comprehensive picture of the implications driven from modern linguistics theories on Vietnamese linguistics within the scope of Vietnamese grammar study.
