Opportunities and challenges for socio-economic development in ethnic minorities in the integration period

Abstract

Vietnam’s official admission to become the 150th member of the World Trade Organization marked an important event of Vietnam, demonstrating Vietnam’s Communist Party continued foreign policy, which is openness, deeper integration in the world economy. The integration process witnessed both opportunities intertwined with challenges for the country in general and ethnic minorities in particular. Wrapping up and making full use of opportunities while overcoming and mitigating risks and challenges would be the first factor safeguarding successful integration in the world economy. Based on experiences drawn from the past integration, the article conceptualized a number of positive impacts, opportunities, difficulties and challenges for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and upland regions in the coming time.
