Stone objects in the age of Post-Le dynasty in several pagodas of Trúc Lâm Buddhist meditation school

Abstract

Buddhism has been brought into Vietnam till now for almost one thousand years. The Buddhist meditation school was initiated by Trần Nhân Tông and developed from the late eighteenth century. Trúc Lâm pagodas in this article were basically built during Tran dynasty. In order to distinguish these pagodas, in the Ancestor’s house, there usually stand three statues of Trúc Lâm school founders, namely Trần Nhân Tông, Pháp Hoa and Huyền Quang, or only one of these figures at the least. Stone steles of the Post-Le dynasty in the these pagodas afford researchers with helpful information, contributing to the understanding of different scientific areas such as: history, geography, pagoda renovation, renewing and re-coloring Buddhist statues, name of the pagodas in the course of history. These objects need to be preserved, maintained as the country’s treasures. This article concentrated on highlighting the value of these stone objects.
