Abstract

Modernization as interpreted in Vietnam and nations in the East, including East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia and broader, is an event of the rule, taking place in the exchanges and building relationships with the West whose central part is Europe, bringing the mankind into a new development period – the era of bourgeois revolution and capitalism.

However, having a comprehensive and closer look at the East, the Europeanization or modernization is taking place with different roadmaps, which means different models are being applied. For Vietnam alone, as of historical characteristics and reactions from authorities of the Nguyen dynasty, the modernization or the access to and reception of the Western civilization took place differently from China, Korea and Japan.

In this article, the author presented his analysis and preliminary observations of this process: modernization of Vietnamese literature in comparison with the East Asia
