Abstract

Rich and poor disparity is both the outcome and agent of societal stratification. In Vietnam, studies on rich and poor disparity as well as societal disparity only started when the Party and the Government of Vietnam launched a comprehensive renewal policy of the country’s socio-economic life in 1986.

This article conceptualized on the one side the background of rich and poor disparity and societal stratification in the country in order for readers in moving from the common to the particular to understand this issue in Hanoi; on the other side, employed available data to enrich essential information that serves the evaluation in a more holistic and accurate manner of rich and poor disparity, societal stratification and related issues in Hanoi.
