Abstract

Production ability of the first generation of GHW15-04 chicken breed in Thai Nguyen province
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the production ability of chicken GHW15-04 raised
for eggs in Thai Nguyen province. Experiment chickens were reared in three phases, phase I from
1-56, phase II from 57-133, and phase III from 134-238 days of age. Phase I consisted of 600 unsexed
chicks divided into three groups of 200 each. In phase II, 240 hens and 60 roosters were selected
from bỉrds in phase I, hens were divided into 3 groups, 80 birds each and roosters were also divided
into 3 groups, 20 birds each, raising cocks and hens separately. In phase III, 195 hens and 24 roosters
were selected from phase II and divided into 3 groups, 65 hens and 8 cocks each (hen/rooster ratio
is 8/1). The results show that chicken GHW15-04 had a high survival rate, over 97.00% in stage I,
over 95.00% in stage II; the average weight at 133 days of age of roosters was 1,602.27 g/bird, that
of hens was 1,401.56 g/birds. Average feed intake of both roosters and hens from 1-133 days of age
was 7,141 g/birds. The laying rate in the first 15 weeks was 60,61%; the egg productivity was 4.24
eggs/hen/week; average egg weight was 56.90 g/egg; the ratio of yolk, white, shell and Haugh -
index was 32.87; 56.11; 11.02% and 84.52; the ratio of hatching eggs, of embryos/incubated eggs
and of type I chicks/chicks were 89.55% 83.60 and 96.37%. The above results showed that chicken
GHW15-04 was adapted to local living conditions and had good productivity ability.
