Abstract

Effects of egg-laying times in a day on the egg weights, shape index of egg, and
hatchability parameters of the Ross 308
Ross 308 is a super meat chicken breed with high productivity, short rearing time and suitable
for the conditions in Vietnam. This study investigated the effects of egg-laying times in a day on the
egg weights, shape index of eggs and the hatchability parameters of the Ross 308. The eggs were
laid mostly in the morning and the highest rate was from 8:30am to 10:30am. This period of time
also had the highest percentage of embryonated eggs. The egg weight of Ross 308 was 57.57±1,008g
and the shape index of eggs was 1,288±0.011. Egg-laying times in the day was an effect on egg
weights, but not on the shape index of eggs. The highest percentage of embryonated eggs and the
level 1 chicks were from the eggs group that laid at 8:30 to 12:30am.
