Abstract

Reproductive performance of Danish sows’ group
The study was conducted to evaluate the reproductive performance of a group of Danish
sows’ group. A total of 89 LY/YL crossbred sows bred with Duroc boars was observed in this study.
The results showed that (i) the number of piglets was not statistically significant (P>0.05) among
the parity groups at the time from birth to 21 days of age, although the number of piglets was
highest in the group of parities above 4, followed by the group 2-4 parities and lowest in group of
first parity; (ii) The live weight of piglet increased with age and boars are heavier than sows in all
paritiy groups although there was no significant difference among the parities at birth and 21 days
of age. At 7 and 14 days of age, the weight of piglet was highest in the group of parities above 4 and
lowest in the group 1st parity (P<0.05); (iii) There was 43.82% of sows with reproductive problems,
mainly stillbirth foetuses, while 6.44% of foetuses or piglets have problems, due to problems of
wooden foetuses, asphyxiated foetuses, bitten or crushed by the mother sow and low birth weight
piglets and (iv) The percentage of piglets with diarrhea was highest in the period from birth to 7
days of age (2.25%) and lowest at 14-21 days of age (0%). All piglets with diarrhea were treated with
a success rate of 100%
