Promoting the heritage of central highlands gong-culture space in tourism activities

Abstract

The Central Highlands gong-culture space, an intangible cultural heritage of special
value, has insightful cultural significance as well as is a resource for sustainable
tourism development. Recognized by United Nations Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2005, this heritage is now facing many challenges
such as loss of tradition, commercialization and urbanization. This study analyzes
the potentiality of the Central Highlands gong-culture space, assesses the current
status of its conservation and exploitation in tourism, and proposes solutions such as
preserving the original, developing typical tourism products, applying technology and
building sustainable supportive policies. The research results highlight the important
role of indigenous communities and cooperation between the government and tourism
enterprises in protecting and promoting this heritage, towards a sustainable cultural
tourism product for the Central Highlands.
