Experiences from Practical Implementation of Women’s Roles in the Family and Community in Japan and Policy Implications for Vietnam
Abstract
This paper analyzes the practical experiences of Japanese women in performing their
roles in the family and community with the aim of assessing the changes and adjustments
of these roles in the context of the modern society. The paper used document analysis
and secondary data synthesis from government reports, academic studies, and relevant
international sources. The research results show that, despite many positive reforms,
Japanese women still face unique challenges arising from conflicts between traditional
values and modern ones, occupational pressures, and existing cultural barriers.
the family, Japanese women continue to play a major role in caring for the family, raising children, and contributing to the household economy. In the community, they
actively participate in economic, political and social activities although the degree of
their participation is still limited. The paper also analyzes the factors that affect the
performance of women’s roles, including economic, social and cultural ones. On that
basis, the paper proposes recommendations to optimize the women’s roles in the family
and community, and their roles in contributing to the sustainable development of the
Japanese society.
