Abstract
Vocabulary acquisition plays a crucial role in foreign language learning in general and Chinese language learning in particular. However, many first-year students majoring in Chinese language at Bac Giang Agriculture and Forestry University still face significant difficulties in memorizing and effectively using new vocabulary. To investigate the current situation and propose appropriate solutions, this study employed methods such as document analysis, field surveys, and data analysis. The results revealed that students mainly struggle due to the lack of suitable learning methods, limited study time and frequency, and low learning motivation. Based on these findings, the research team proposed several recommendations to enhance students’ vocabulary learning capacity, including strengthening instruction on effective learning methods, integrating vocabulary retention skills into the curriculum, and encouraging the application of technology in vocabulary learning. This study contributes to a more accurate assessment of the current situation and offers practical solutions to improve the effectiveness of Chinese vocabulary teaching and learning for first-year students at the university.
