Abstract

After 1918, the bourgeois Vietnamese became a part of “the bourgeoisie of Vietnam” in the Cochinchine. They engaged in many fields of manufacture and trade. On the one hand, they gathered a number of the Vietnamese into economic organizations to compete with the foreign bourgeoisie, and promote the ways of doing business. On the other hand, they faced such difficulties as being subject to competitions controlled by the foreign bourgeoisie; lacking autonomy in many important economic sectors; and causing negative impacts on the country’s revolution due to their class interests.
